Cervical Screening Awareness Week 19-24 June 2025

Cervical cancer leads to approximately 685 deaths a year in England and most cervical cancer cases (over 99%) are caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) virus.

Cervical screening saves approximately 5,000 lives a year in the UK because it's not just a test - it's an early warning system that can detect problems before they develop into cancer. By attending screenings when invited, you're giving yourself the best possible protection against cervical cancer, meaning you can continue being there for the people who matter most in your life.

Worried about your cervical screening? You're not alone. You can ask for a female nurse, bring someone with you for support, or talk through your concerns with the nurse beforehand.

Eliminating cervical cancer is more achievable than ever before. Be part of something historic. Together, by 2040, we can stop cervical cancer and make it a disease of the past in England.
